Once Upon a Time...

Psalms 90:9 “For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.”

I love a good fairytale…love story…just a good book in general, don’t you? I love reading all the action, adventure, sorrow, mystery, drama, suspense…it keeps my attention captured!

But! Have you ever thought about it? Our lives are living stories…living tales…an open book that is being read or will be read someday by someone along the way, maybe by us or some passerby. In some ways, that could be really exciting to know that my life is that much of a “best seller” that someone or Someone, our Lord, will take the time to pick it up and read, but at the same time, it is a scary thought. We all have things in our lives that we wish were never there. Things that we wish we could make disappear…secret mistakes, failures, sins…some things that we do not want to tell anyone about or for them to read about in our lives…

I remember when I was younger that I would keep a journal every now and then, and if there was something in that journal that I didn’t like that I had written, all I had to do was tear it out! Then, La-de-da! It was gone! No more bad entry…no more mistakes in my journal! Did you know that the story of our lives is like that?

Picture this: Some day, someone picks up an interesting book. It has a cover so unique that they just can’t put it down. They must know the contents. So, they start reading…as they read, they begin to notice that there are pages missing! Hey! There must be a misprint or something! Page4 is torn out completely! Page 26 is completely blank! Chapter 6 is totally turned around by Chapter 7, and as they continue reading they realize that there are more and more such pages and chapters. They close the book and look at the cover again to see who is this bizarre, crazy author… they are amazed to see a familiar name…it is their own name! They look at the publisher…it is the Lord Jesus Christ!

You know what? As a child of God, we have that privilege to come to the Lord with our secret sins, our failures. Hebrews 4:16 “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” Things that we wish to take out of our lives, that we want no one to read about in the tale of our lives! You know what else? They can be erased!

Isaiah 43:25 “I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.”

Jeremiah 31:34 “And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

Micah 7:19 “He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.”

1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Psalms 103:12 “As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.”

Those things in our lives are gone! Those are pages that no one will ever get to read. They are gone FOREVER! Isn’t that amazing? One thing that our Publisher and Editor wants of us though is to never question His editing of our lives…never bring up what we think is a missing page or a chapter. He’s taken care of those things in our lives! What a wonderful thought! But at the same hand, let’s live our lives in light that someone is reading our lives…yes, we make mistakes and if we take those mistakes to our Lord, He will erase them (just remember to take them to Him because we will just make a bigger mess of it!), tear them out to be as if they never existed…but let’s be a book that someone can read to see Christ in and what a miracle He can do in their lives by the testimony of our lives!
